Dubai RTA and Emaar Announce Major Expansion of Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station

Capacity to rise by 65 per cent as landmark station prepares to serve up to 220,000 passengers daily

Dubai’s transport infrastructure is set for a significant upgrade as the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with Emaar Properties to expand the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station, one of the busiest and most strategically located stations on the Dubai Metro network.

The expansion project will increase the station’s capacity by 65 per cent, enabling it to accommodate up to 220,000 passengers per day. The move comes in response to sustained growth in passenger demand, driven by the station’s proximity to globally renowned attractions including the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, and Downtown Dubai.

According to RTA, the decision reflects consistently high footfall throughout the year, with exceptional surges during New Year’s Eve celebrations, as well as during religious and national holidays and major public events. These peak periods place considerable pressure on existing infrastructure, prompting the need for a long-term, scalable solution.

The collaboration with Emaar Properties highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in supporting Dubai’s urban growth and mobility ambitions. By aligning transport expansion with major real estate and tourism hubs, the project aims to enhance passenger flow, reduce congestion, and significantly improve the overall commuter experience.

Once completed, the upgraded station is expected to feature expanded platforms, improved access points, and enhanced circulation areas designed to manage large crowds more efficiently and safely. The improvements will also support Dubai’s broader objectives of promoting public transport usage and ensuring seamless connectivity across the city.

As Dubai continues to attract millions of visitors and residents alike, the expansion of the Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station stands as a critical investment in the city’s future, reinforcing its reputation for forward-thinking infrastructure and world-class urban planning.
